Circumstances have made Shaka a career criminal. When plague empties a town of its inhabitants, he takes the opportunity to burgle a house. He finds nothing except Shanti, a widowed daughter-in-law who has been left to die by her cruel relatives. Shaka nurses her back to health. When her relatives return they are not pleased to find her alive and even less pleased to discover that someone has tried to rob them. Shanti gets the blame and a beating. Shaka saves her from worse, at the hands of brother-in-law, and the pair flee. They set up home in Shaka's house, much to the displeasure of the respectable neighbours who are all too ready to think the worst. Shanti's relatives are dismayed when a lawyer arrives to announce that Shanti has been left a legacy. They hatch a plot to get her back. Meanwhile, Shaka's rehabilitation is proceeding - much to the chagrin of his former criminal associates. Fire and redemption for some, death and handcuffs for others is what fate has in store.

Vijay (Jeetendra) is a Crime Reporter and very often helps the police in apprehending criminals. When his stepmother (Kamini Kaushal) passes away, she asks him to look after his step-brother, Anand (Vijay Arora), which he promises to do so.

Widowed by the sudden passing of his wife, Superintendent of Police, Choudhry, brings up his son, Rajesh, on his own, teaches him all known good values, and when he grows up sends him to College in Bombay, and remits money to him regularly. Choudhry would like to transfer to Bombay Police, so that he can be close to his son, and then one day out of the blue, his transfer is approved, and a delighted Choudhry writes to his son to pick him from the railway station. Upon arrival in Bombay, he does not find his son at the Railway Station, but when browsing through a newspaper he sees his son's photograph - wanted for the murder of a card-sharp. Shocked and dismayed, Choudhry attempts to piece his life together and attempts to find Rajesh before the City Police do - for he may well face the death sentence. Choudhry does find him, but only after Rajesh is accused of killing a woman named Kishori, and this time Choudhry is quite sure that there is no hope for Rajesh.

Kusum Rai lives a wealthy lifestyle in scenic Kashmir with her widowed dad, Basant. Her dad had helped his friend's widow, her son, Sushil Verma, and daughter, Munni, overcome many financial challenges, and had also paid for his medical education so that he can grow up to not only support his family, but also marry Kusum. Kusum and Sushil do get married and re-locate back to Sushil's house which is attached to Malhotra Hospital where he works. Shortly thereafter disagreements begin when Kusum is not allowed to have her way, and also when she feels that Sushil is not being attentive towards her. Things escalate to such an extent that Kusum returns to live with her dad. Several months later, she is informed that Sushil is seriously ill, she returns - only to find that Sushil is in love with a nurse named Karuna. Watch what an angered Kusum does to keep Sushil all to himself.

Raja Kumar Bahadur alias Gyan Shankar Rai has been a total abstainer all his life, never touching a drop of alcohol, and keeping away from women and all known vices all his life. He brings Sumita home, but makes it clear that Madhuri's word is law here. Then Kumar finds out that Sumita had a childhood sweetheart in Shekhar, who has now returned from abroad. Kumar meets with Shekhar and finds out that both still have feelings for each other.

Vijay trys to save every workers life in order to overcome his haunted past but to no avil. But one day water forced itself in one of the mining tunnels, endangering the lives of over 400 workers. Vijay along with some of his other colleagues put up a big fight to save each and every workers life. Which at last was successful and Vijay was able to overcome his troubled past.

Rajesh works for Meena's father. Meena and her friend Taruna decide to play a prank on him. Both women pretend to fall in love with him, but he finds out, resulting in acrimony.
